Oregon veterans on Honor Flight to DC get a hero’s welcome: ‘I never expected that’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon veterans on the South Willamette Valley Honor Flight arrived in the nation’s capital to a gauntlet of American flags, handshakes and sincere statements of “Thank you for your service.”

“It’s very nice,” Army veteran Don Amacher said. “It’s better than I thought.”

“These people meeting us here is fantastic,” veteran Charles Heath said. “I never expected that.”

Kate and Zack Polk were there to greet the veterans.

“Just to show them our gratitude and thank them for serving our country,” Kate said.

“Just how happy we were for them, and you know: how thankful we are,” Zack added.
